As part of RevHydro’s draft tube flow control work, the LTU team is using 3D printing to manufacture key components for a downscale turbine model.

This approach supports rapid and resource-efficient prototyping, allowing digital designs to be transformed into physical components for laboratory use. In research and development activities, this flexibility is particularly valuable because it enables design iterations before final experimental testing.

The downscale turbine model will support future investigations of flow control concepts and pressure pulsation mitigation. Together with CFD modelling and velocity measurements, the 3D printed components contribute to a complete workflow that connects simulation, manufacturing and laboratory validation.

This activity reflects RevHydro’s focus on practical, innovative and sustainable solutions for the next generation of hydropower technologies.
