The objective of this work package is to develop an Intelligent Fish Barrier (I-Fish) to improve fish protection and biodiversity conservation at hydropower plants. The work package focuses on guiding fish safely away from turbines using behavior-based deterrent solutions, reducing the ecological impact of hydropower operation.
Experimental setups will be designed and implemented to study fish behavior in the presence of the barrier. The performance of the I-Fish system will be evaluated for different fish species, with particular attention to fish welfare and barrier effectiveness, supporting the development of environmentally sustainable hydropower refurbishment solutions.
